Virginia "Ginger" Maralik Kureska Obituary

Virginia Mae Maralik Kureska, born June 20, 1928, passed away on November 20, 2022 in San Antonio, Texas. She was 94 years old.

Ginger was born in Taylor, Texas and spent her early years in Taylor until the family moved to San Antonio, Texas where she graduated from Burbank High School. Soon after her graduation, she met Dan, her true love. They married on November 16, 1946 and moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where they began their family and then to Alice, Texas in 1961.

Ginger enjoyed working and had careers in the insurance industry and then became a paralegal in Alice, Texas with Homer E. Dean. Even with working, her immediate and extended family was always the most important thing in her life. She was always in attendance and cheering “loudly” at Danny’s sporting events and then would go home and design an outfit for Sandy and sit at the sewing machine through the night to finish it. Ginger was the epitome of the “Life of the Party” as she loved going to Czech dances, organizing and hosting family bar-b- ques, birthdays or holiday parties. She and Dan also spent a great deal of time with Dan’s Central Power and Light work family. The two were a great team going to or hosting work events. They spent some time traveling with work friends and family. She was a member of the Corpus Christi Cathedral Church in Corpus and a longtime member of St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Alice. She served on numerous church councils and the Altar Societies at both churches.

Ginger remained in Alice after Dan’s passing in 1996 and then moved to San Antonio in 2013 to be closer to Sandy. Her grandchildren and great granddaughters brought her much joy in her later years. She always remained fiercely independent and was able to stay in her own home in San Antonio until the time of her passing.

Ginger was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby and Joe Maralik, her loved husband of 50 years, Dan and sister Ruby Jo Durham.

She is survived by her son, Danny Kureska (Mary) of Corpus Christi, TX; daughter, Sandy Richter (David) of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren Courtney Plumlee (Mike) Dallas, Texas; Colin Kureska (Lauren) Katy, Texas; Christin Kureska, Corpus Christi, Texas; Kassie Gnospelius (Todd) Fulshear, Texas and great granddaughters Peyton Claire and Alexa Grace Plumlee. Ginger also leaves behind numerous loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
