Zenaida “Sandy” C. Gonzalez, 81, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Alice, TX on October 14, 2021. She was born in Realitos, TX on September 9, 1940 to Jose Canales and Maria De La Garza. She grew up on a ranch in Realitos,TX and graduated from Benavides High School in 1959. She then attended a business school in Corpus Christi, TX. In 1964, she married the love of her life, Agapito Gonzalez. After moving around a few years, they settled in Alice, TX. She worked at P&S Hospital a few years before moving on to work as a bookkeeper for Standard Auto Parts/Carquest for over 27 years. After her retirement, she enjoyed babysitting and attending all of her grandchildren's games. She was always the happiest around her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she loved attending mass when she could.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Agapito V. Gonzalez of Alice; parents, Jose and Olivia Canales of Realitos; in-laws, Cristel and Adelina Gonzalez of Alice; brothers, Enrique and Jose Adan Canales; sisters, Eva C Ramirez and Lucinda C Rodriguez; and sister-in-law, Enedina Gonzalez.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah G. Chapa (Jesse Perez) of Alice, TX and son, David A. Gonzalez (Gina Saenz) of Beeville, TX; six grandchildren, David Gonzalez (Lindsey) of Amarillo, TX, Debra Gonzalez and Stephen Chapa of San Antonio, TX, Stephanie Chapa (Orlando Espinoza), Sean Chapa (Jenna Charles), Sierra Chapa and her extra grandson, Julian Munoz of Alice, TX; two great grandchildren that she loved beyond measure, Braxton Liam Espinoza and Braylee Mae Chapa; brothers-in-law, Jose Rodriguez, Antonio (Lois) Gonzalez and Cristel Gonzalez of Alice and Romeo (Maria Magdalena) Gonzalez of Pharr; sister-in-law, Corina Canales of San Antonio, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2021, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Holmgreen Mortuary with a rosary being recited at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 22, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Celebrant Father Pete. Burial will follow at Alice Cemetery.
